Several people have written to ask how to start a gem business. I can’t be of much help because I don’t sell gems or jewelry. Consider contacting a wholesaler for help. (You can find them on the Internet or in the Yellow Pages.) It’s in a wholesaler's interest to help people start new retail businesses because they can become one of your suppliers. However, don’t expect consignment goods. As a new customer they’ll want you to either pay COD, prepay or else have an excellent credit rating
